Development of interactive e-content to enhance listening skill and language comprehension among secondary school students
Abstract
This study examines the effect of interactive e-content in improving listening skills and language comprehension among secondary school students using a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 200 eighth-grade students from the Thrissur district, Kerala, following the state curriculum. Participants were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. Pre-test assessed baseline language abilities, after which the experimental group received instruction through researchers-developed interactive e-content, while the control group underwent traditional teaching. Post-test was conducted. Data analysis, incorporating basic statistical measures and t-tests, demonstrated a significant improvement in both skills among students in the experimental group. The t-value revealed that students exposed to interactive e-content showed significantly greater improvement in listening skills and language comprehension. Students from both rural and urban settings demonstrated notable progress, indicating that the digital content was effective regardless of locality. The findings suggest that interactive e-content is a powerful tool for enhancing listening skill and language comprehension in diverse student populations. This research underscores the potential of digital learning tools in language education and recommends future studies to explore their impact on other language domains, such as speaking and writing.
